Models for promoting innovation in universities in selected developing countries and lessons for Vietnam

In the context of globalisation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, innovation has become a key driver of economic growth, sustainable development and the enhancement of national competitiveness. While enterprises are identified as the centre of national innovation systems, universities still play a crucial role within the sub-ecosystem of education and research, with their core functions of training high-quality human resources, generating new knowledge, fostering entrepreneurial spirit, and connecting with both enterprises and government. This approach is particularly important in developing countries, where institutional, financial, and human resource barriers remain substantial. This article analyses and synthesises experiences from innovation models in higher education that have been effectively implemented in selected developing countries such as India, Brazil, Thailand, and South Africa, thereby drawing practical lessons for Vietnam.
