Bài viết mô tả cách tiếp cận và phương pháp thực hiện đánh giá các tổ chức nghiên cứu. Đây là phương pháp mới được xây dựng để áp dụng cho Việt Nam, bởi những phương pháp được sử dụng ở các quốc gia khác không phù hợp với yêu cầu và điều kiện khoa học và công nghệ (KH&CN) của Việt Nam, quốc gia đang trong quá trình chuyển đổi. Đánh giá tổ chức nghiên cứu là công cụ rất hữu ích hỗ trợ công tác quản lý KH&CN, vì kết quả đánh giá thông báo cho các cơ quan quản lý và tài trợ về hiệu quả hoạt động của các tổ chức nghiên cứu, xác định được tổ chức nào hoạt động tốt. Đồng thời, kết quả đánh giá cũng giúp các tổ chức nghiên cứu nắm được phương thức cải thiện hiệu suất hoạt động của đơn vị.
